Calgary Biopsychosocial Risk for Adolescent Internalizing Disorders
(C-BRAID Study)
About this Study:
Rates of depression and anxiety in children are relatively low and stable until the age of 12, when they begin to sharply increase, especially in females. Of those who will ever be depressed or anxious, 75% will be diagnosed by mid- to late-adolescence. Children of parents who have a history of depression and anxiety are 3-7 times more likely to develop these disorders themselves. Our study hopes to identify which factors (e.g., parenting, brain development, personality) increase the risk for youth developing these disorders, and may help us to assist in preventing the development of a disorder.
